Persons serving themselves during the prayer breakfastHealthy social gatherings are becoming a rarity these days. While there is an abundance of cultural and entertainment shows,Liverpool FC New Jersey 2018/19, sports gatherings and exhibitionism events, the older and traditional events are not held as often as in the olden days. The other day I saw an advertisement for a High Tea party gathering somewhere in Berbice. Curiosity may lead many persons to that event so as to see what is being served and what the atmosphere at such an event would be like. But where can families and friends enjoy each other’s company in a cozy and relaxing atmosphere without worrying about the dangers of societal influences on their family members especially the young ones? Where can our young people go and still feel safe as if they never left home?Recently, the All Saints’ Anglican Church in New Amsterdam organised a prayer breakfast. Parishioners, friends and well-wishers gathered early Saturday morning at the Berbician Patio,Air Max 90 Pas Cher Destockage, just aback of Demico House for the breakfast. The event was organised by veteran educator and well- known community leader in New Amsterdam, Ms Catherine ‘Kate’ Archer,Maglietta Juventus Bambino, who’s had quite a lot of experience with regards to gatherings like these. Ms Archer was motivated to raise funds for the restoration project ongoing at the moment at All Saints’ Anglican. She thought that the idea would be a fitting one, and a nice way of getting together with people in a healthy atmosphere.“It’s a religious thing,” she told Kaieteur News. “It’s always a fund-raiser. The religious slant is kept in. It’s something more than a coffee morning. It’s not a brunch.”She said that prayer breakfasts are usually held on Saturdays and holidays so that the people who work can participate and share in the fellowship. This one was held in a religious setting. Roman Catholic priest, Rev Terrence Montrose was invited to conduct a brief song service. The Anglican priest, the Venerable Archdeacon George Spencer could not have graced the occasion.Since his appointment as Archdeacon in the Diocese of Guyana, he has additional duties some of which saw him visiting the Rupununi the same weekend the breakfast was held. Fr Montrose gave an inspiring talk at the event. He beckoned those who attended to sit at the table and talk to each other at mealtimes. For too long, the priest said,Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale, families have not been sharing meals together.People today, he said, are too busy to take stock of the quality of their own lives?the way they live, the way they eat and take care of their bodies, and most importantly, the way they relate to each other. The menu featured mouth-watering and succulent treats. They were the variety of breads? coconut bread, white bread,Mens Air Jordan 3 Retro 88 White Fire Red-Cement Grey-Black 580775-160, sweet bread, raisin bread, corn bread and bakes. The main course included salt fish, chicken puffs, sausage salad,Nuova Maglia Juventus 18/19, boiled eggs, and scrambled eggs.     Three police ranks accused of sodomising a 16year-old boy at the Stabroek Market Mobile Outpost were placed under close arrest yesterday, even as close relatives of the alleged victim expressed skepticism about his story. The ranks were removed from the outpost pending the outcome of an investigation that is being conducted by the police and Child Protection officials.A senior police official told Kaieteur News on Tuesday that the alleged victim was medically examined at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation ((GPHC) and was also interviewed by a social worker and a police rank. He was released into the care of a female relative yesterday.Kaieteur News understands that social workers are familiar with the teen, who has a long history of delinquency and is also a commercial sex worker. The teen sparked off an investigation on Tuesday after alleging that three police ranks sodomised him at the Stabroek Market Police Outpost at around 21:00 last Sunday night.According to the police official, the ‘victim’ claimed that one of the perpetrators has a gold tooth and was dressed in uniform at the time, while the other ranks were in uniform. But the teen’s close relatives have repeatedly expressed the view that he is being less than truthful. At least two relatives claimed that the lad has a habit of making false accusations. They said that the ‘victim’ has been wandering the streets from an early age and is known by the name ‘Beyonce’.His mother is said to be ill, while his father is serving a life sentence for murder. Kaieteur News was told that the boy was taken in by relatives but began wandering the streets and soliciting sex.“He would be at his uncle’s home in man clothes and on the road he would wear girl clothes and wigs,Wholesale NFL Jerseys,” one relative said. The relative added that the teen would also steal female clothing and committed other acts of theft.Relatives also said that the ‘victim’ was incarcerated at the ‘boy’s school’ ((New Opportunity Corps), where his sexual acts with males escalated. He was recently released from that Institution. One relative described the ‘victim’ as someone who “would bring police and say you do him something,” while speaking about the teen’s alleged habit of making false allegations against individuals. Some vendors who ply their trade near the Stabroek Market Outpost said that they neither saw nor heard anything unusual on the night of the alleged assault.

Unity, supplication and good family time are keys to long life, and Ivy Beril Maxwell,NFL Jerseys Wholesale, a US based Guyanese, knows that all too well. An ardent cricket and boxing fan, ‘Aunt Ivy,’ celebrated her 100th birthday yesterday,Jerseys NFL China, and according to her family,Air Max 90 Pas Cher Site Francais, it’s 100 years worth celebrating. Surely, the West Indies cricket team could do with the likes of her!A grand family party is planned for next Saturday in New Jersey, where more than 100 of her relatives will gather to pay homage to the matriarch.Born at Lot 103 Leopold Street on November 22, 1915 ‘Aunt Ivy Maxwell’ the now great-great-grandmother, grew up at Lot 47 Sunflower Street, Wismar, Linden,Air Max Outlet Norge, before spending a greater part of her life at Lot 58 Upper Robb Street, Bourda. She now resides permanently in the USA, at 64-66 Grumman Avenue, Newark, New Jersey. She outlived three of her seven children and migrated to the USA some 12 years ago but makes it her duty to come home as often as possible. While in Guyana, ‘Aunt Ivy’ resided with her eldest granddaughter, Lorrel Brooks, who describes her as a wonderful soul who loves singing hymns and calypsos, while playing the piano and keyboard. “She is obsessed with crosswords and her hand writing is impeccable.”Her eldest daughter,China Jerseys Cheap, 72-year-old Ula Greene, describes her as, “a loveable and an unselfish mother.”As a child, Ivy Beril Maxwell and her mother made and sold peppermint drops and other condiments. She was her mother’s only child, but is one of two children for her father, the late Egbert Seaton who was a cobbler. Her only sibling,Maillot Psg 2018/19, a younger brother, Seaton aged 89 is still alive and lives in Canada. She is grandmother of 17, great grandmother of 21 and she has one great-great-grand child.Aunty Ivy started visiting the US in the late 1990s where most of her children and relatives reside. But, she still treasures memories of Guyana and talks about her fresh vegetables.Speaking on the telephone she recalled the days Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret visited the then British Guiana, during the days of the De Soto cars and horse-drawn carts. She keeps abreast with local politics and loves to read. She gets most of her news from the New York edition of the Kaieteur News.A housewife after marriage in 1940, her husband, Samuel Maxwell was a shoe maker. He passed on in September 1999. “I’m not sewing clothes anymore; I hang up my gloves, I’m not washing clothes any more, meaning there is no more relations for me.”She has no regrets about life and its ups and downs because she believes that, “Without the downs there is nothing to celebrate in the ups.”An avid sports fan, she enjoys spending time with family members watching cricket and boxing. Her stories abound about cricket greats such as Clive Lloyd, Basil Butcher, Gary Sobers and Alvin Kallicharran. Her hearing is not as clear as it once was, and she uses a walker. For this birthday, she wants a wand and a crown, along with her birthday cake.Still got the moves at 100!“When I score a century I shall be a queen who has defied the odds and is proud to have been the matriarch of a successful family.”A strict mother who abhors profanity,Manchester United Fan Shop UK, she sang in the choir at the St Phillips Anglican or whenever she was in Linden at the St Aidan’s Anglican Church.Aside from old age she has no major illness, and like her mother, Aunt Ivy still lives by the belief which she has handed down to her children: “Humility, supplication and family unity.” She receives regular medical checks from her granddaughter, Alina Tyndall, who is a physician. Her eldest daughter is a retired Admin Assistant. The younger daughter, daughter Lynette is a Nursing Assistant and her son was in the mining industry before migrating to the USA.((By Mondale Smith)

From sea turtle hunting to protection of sea turtles is an amazing tale of challenges, dedication and self esteem for local Amerindian Conservationists of Moruca, Region One.Their fight is part of the global effort in the protection of the environment, and involves the tagging and monitoring of the nesting marine turtles and awareness campaigns which had influenced the path that journeyed to the declaration of Shell Beach as a Protected Area. The Marine turtle conservation program had been created in 1988 and since then the local team had been monitoring the nesting population,Manchester United t Shirts, along the Shell Beach of the north western coast of Guyana.Romeo De Freitas ((front left) and team on Shell BeachA special education awareness package was developed in 1990, which was designed to target local students from the fisher using communities within the Moruca district. Numerous students visit the beach project during the peak of the nesting season May and June, and participate in a one week per school educational awareness activities. The Guyana Marine Turtle Conservation Society ((GMTCS) was founded in 2000, and continues the effort of protecting the Marine turtles and its environment. The GMTCS had also managed and spearhead many communities outreach programmes pertaining to the conservation of the marine turtles, in collaboration with the local stake holders, governmental and donor agencies alike.Romeo De Freitas, Country coordinator for the Marine Turtle Project ((GMTCS), said that the society faced countless challenges with the conservation program. The development and sustainability of this program is ongoing. He noted that the society does not use their funding as a business to generate profits.“We always face the same challenges and fund raising becomes a major part of our activities. GMTCS had been blessed by having committed donor agencies, which not only support in funds and in kinds but also engage in technical supports throughout the years. Among the many funding agencies, whose support may have been for a season or even three years such as Eeripami,” he said. The three main donor agencies,China Jerseys, which had been the back bone of the project from the beginning are: Chelonian Research Institute, Simpson Oil Limited Inc. ((earlier Shell Antilles Guyana) and the World Wildlife Funds. The turtle population over the years had developed in relating data analysis and nesting females on the beaches at nights.Human intervention and engagement,Nike Air Max 90 Goedkoop Bestellen, such as fishing activities in the nearby coastal waters and in front of nesting beaches, contribute to the lost of many adult turtles that had been caught accidently and drowned in nets.“Nature had also played a major role in redesigning the nesting habitat by erosion,Cristiano Ronaldo Maglia Juve Originale, some of which becomes wonderful nesting spots, while others have been blocked by mud bars and become unsuitable for nesting, these natural cause had impacted in many disadvantages for the nesting turtles, especially those that may venture to other beaches, unprotected by rangers and suffer the consequences by the hands of the local fishermen,” he added.De Freitas also noted that the marine turtle nesting and monitoring activities will begin in February and conclude in the later part of August.GMTCS will continue to record and tag marine turtles, data collection on all monitoring activities, and promote its annual Education Awareness program. Moreover, the ranger training program will be conducted in the first quarter of the project,Maillot Psg 2018/19 Pas Cher, at the GMTCS field station on Almond beach, he added.Special programs will be initiated to strengthen rangers’ capacities, and will be conducted by GMTCS and other agencies, such as The Environmental Protection Agency’s ((EPA), Protected Area Commission, WWF, Iwokrama, Repsol and the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard.De Freitas indicated that he is looking forward for a more positive outcome this season, and is calling on all stakeholders especially from the local fishing communities to support the conservation efforts,Retro Jordans For Sale Australia, and avoid the practice of turtle eggs harvesting and killing of the adult female turtles,Nike Air Max Ale, and even the purchasing of the meat and eggs with in the communities. He noted that the Shell Beach is now a Protected Area and there is legislation that governor the illegal take of all the endangered species from within that area.? And anyone who is caught or found doing that illegal act; will be facing the consequences of the law.

By: Attorney Gail S. Seeram,The law requires that most non-U.S. citizens report a change of address within 10 days of moving by completing a Change of Address form with USCIS.? Additionally, petitioners and sponsors are required to report a change of address whether they are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. It is also mandatory for any alien who has been designated as a “special registrant” to inform the USCIS whenever he or she has a change of address, employment or school. In the past, INS, required every alien in the United States to report his or her address annually, in January. This requirement was eliminated in 1980 and annual reporting is no longer required. However, if you are not a U.S. citizen, the law still requires that you report any change of address change within 10 days of the change. As a U.S. citizen, you are only legally required to update your address with USCIS if you have ever submitted an Affidavit of Support, to be the financial sponsor of someone so they can immigrate. You are required by law to report any change of address within 30 days of your move by filing a Sponsor’s Notice of Change of Address.Additionally,Arsenal Fc New Kit 18/19, a U.S. citizen and permanent resident ((green card holder) will be required to submit a change of address on-line or by calling USCIS if they have a pending petition filed for a family member.Any notices or documents USCIS sends to you are considered official Government mail. If your name is not on the mailbox and/ or registered with the local U.S. Postal Service Office, the Postal Service may not deliver official Government mail to you. Please remember to register your name and address with the local post office and to put your name on your mailbox. How Do I Report My Change of Address? If you are not a U.S. citizen, changing your address for legal purposes does not change your address on any application or petition pending with USCIS and changing your address on a pending application or petition does not meet the legal requirements of informing USCIS of your change of address. For most cases, a petitioner or sponsor can change their address on a pending petition and inform USCIS of their change of address by accessing the new web-based service provided by the USCIS website. If you choose to use this online tool, you can complete an electronic Form AR-11 and notify USCIS to update your address on most pending cases. If you choose not to complete an electronic Form AR-11, you will be required to obtain a paper Form AR-11 and mail it to the address shown on the form. This will delay the process of notifying USCIS significantly. Not filing an electronic AR-11 and choosing to mail in a paper AR-11 will not update your address on any applications or petitions pending with USCIS.Regardless of whether or not you are a U.S. citizen, if you choose not to use the electronic change of address notification, you will need to call customer service at 1-800-375-5283 to request that the address on your pending application/petition be changed. If you are not a U.S. citizen and you have a case pending with USCIS, you will need to do both ? call customer service and complete the paper AR-11. Completing an AR-11 does not update your address on any pending case. Also, notifying customer service does not meet the legal requirement of completing an AR-11.If you mail a paper Form AR-11, it is recommended to use certified, registered or return receipt mail. This is not currently a requirement of USCIS, however it is advisable to send the AR-11 by a method that will give you documentation that you did mail the form to USCIS, in case there should ever be a question.

“I think we as a general society should go out and look for those people we can help…????rather than giving the person the fish, teach them how to fish”???By Gary Eleazar??This is a trait that is seemingly desired in Guyana especially when there is perception that this is a nation replete with horrible stereotypes, such as the adverse labelling of neighbourhoods. One such neighbourhood is that of Albouystown, in Georgetown. The Order of Canada or Ordre du Canada is an honour for merit that is, within the Canadian system of honours, the highest administered by the Governor General-in-Council.Winston Shyam Liaquat KassimBeing awarded this honour is also, by any yardstick, an immense achievement but one Guyanese has managed to gain this distinction.A more inspiring fact is that the first, yes, the first Guyanese ever to be bestowed with this honour, hails from Albouystown. For his significant and consistent contributions over the last 30 years as a dedicated humanitarian throughout the world including Guyana, Winston Shyam Liaquat Kassim, earlier this year was awarded the Order of Canada, Canada’s highest civilian award.Born at 132 King Edward Street Albouystown, Georgetown, he is the sixth of seven children of the late Superintendent of Police, Subaydar Kassim ((retired in 1971) and Hajjin Noorun Nisa Kassim. His elder brothers are retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sultan Feroze Kassim and the late Dr. Sultan Farook Kassim while his sisters are Bibi Fernando, Dolly Dhaniram, Anne Sawh and Ingrid Innes, who are all currently residing in Canada.Kassim attended St. Patrick’s Anglican School in East Canje, Berbice after moving from Georgetown. His father’s duties entailed that he served in different locations.Kassim completed his primary education at St. George’s Anglican School in Georgetown before attending the Indian Education Trust College in Georgetown. He began his professional career at Barclays Bank while still a teenager. He rapidly advanced, rose through the ranks at the bank, which led to him running various banking operations in Dominica, St. Lucia, and Barbados.During this time, Kassim completed his professional banking exams and by the age of 22 returned to Guyana assuming his role as Senior Supervisor with Barclays Bank ((which subsequently became GBTI) and it was at this time that he began to focus on volunteer work.It was in 1975 that Kassim moved to Canada with his wife, Kameni Cheddie, to seek out greater opportunities.Shortly after immigrating to Toronto, he re-started his career in banking at Royal Bank of Canada as a management trainee, working from the ground up but although he had to put a lot of effort in his professional career, he always maintained a focus on giving back to the community. This newspaper sat with Kassim recently to get a glimpse into what makes him tick and more so why he did not just turn his back on his countrymen but decided to help not just here but overseas. The humble but yet personable and approachable Kassim recently spent sometime in Guyana at his brother’s Duke Street residence, and allowed Kaieteur News a glimpse into what drives him to do what he does.He attributed his humility to his well-rounded religious background as he has been regularly attending churches, mosques and mandirs. When he moved from Georgetown to Berbice, where he first started out in an Anglican School, his family ties to both the Muslim and Hindu sects, prompted him to be actively involved in both worlds. His grandfather on his mother’s side was the first Imam of the Adelphi Village Mosque in the early 1900s.Kassim recalled that it was the generosity of a teacher and how he helped to transform the future of his family through the edification of his father that led to the opportunities. His mother had the equivalent of a grade five education while his father who grew up on the estate had the equivalent of a grade two education.“Having seen the drive and determination in my father, my mother’s next door neighbour, a gentleman by the name of Percy Liverpool who was the Headmaster, saw that drive and agreed to tutor him on a part time basis.”He said that while this arrangement was a part time basis ((and free of cost) it ensured that his father was well tutored and caused him to rise to the level of a high school education for which he wrote the exams.Currently the Vice Chairperson of the International Development Relief Foundation ((IDRF), it was the lesson taught by Liverpool that ingrained in Kassim that to help those in need was a duty and not a luxury. To Kassim, community service is neither an obligation nor a responsibility and it is more like an infatuation in which he dedicates much of his time and energy. His volunteer work has positively impacted disadvantaged people from all corners of the earth in some 21 countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bosnia, Chechnya, Ethiopia, Guyana, Palestine, Sudan, South Africa and of course Canada, to name a few.During the 1980s Kassim broadened his volunteerism to a more global stage. International pressure sparked political and social changes in South Africa through the “Free Nelson Mandela” campaign. This according to Kassim fuelled one of his most proud of achievements. When this newspaper asked for a photograph of himself and Mandela, Kassim said that when he did meet Mandela upon his release, capturing the moment for all time in a photograph was the least of his concerns since he did not undertake the endeavour in search of fame or glory but rather it was a duty to help a great man in need.Kassim worked with various groups/individuals to write articles and letters lobbying the Canadian government to support the release of Nelson Mandela.Under the Brian Mulroney government, Canada as the Head of the Commonwealth led the call for sanctions against the South African apartheid, culminating in the release of Nelson Mandela.Canada’s efforts through Kassim and others towards the release of Mandela propelled it to gain world prominence for its moral position.Kassim continued his lobbying by working on the committee for the sponsorship of Nelson Mandela as an Honorary Canadian Citizen.Kassim, through his charitable organisation some three years ago, commenced a humanitarian programme in Guyana where women are taught a skill to develop themselves. These included sewing and cooking with some persons who had benefited even migrating the country.Kassim is involved in work for the Berbice area where more than 100 hundred women have benefited and there are plans to expand.According to Kassim, after consulting with some charitable organisations in Guyana, the IDRF choose to help not based on religion, colour, class or creed but rather on sustainable development. He emphasised that the type of work being done in Guyana is, “rather than giving the person the fish, we teach them how to fish.”The programme currently being undertaken by Kassim in Guyana facilitates some 160 marginalised rural women being given an opportunity to start entrepreneurial activities and to build capacity and self-confidence among rural women entrepreneurs through training. The programme, according to Kassim, is also aimed to give technical assistance on catering, sewing and knitting. When asked what advice he would impart on young Guyanese who feels disenfranchised or without hope, Kassim felt that “education is the fundamental part of trying to upgrade a person’s skills.”He said that the lessons of the teacher, Liverpool, “who has helped my father…that has been instilled in me repeatedly because had it not been for education I would not have been here today.”Kassim felt, however, one of the greatest lessons came from his mother “who instilled in me to take care of the under privileged, but to do so in a quiet manner.”“I think we as a general society should go out and look for those people we can help.”On an international level, Kassim has also greatly contributed to Canada’s recognition as one of the top philanthropic countries in the world. He mentioned that during a meeting with the Minister of Human Services and Social Security,Camo China NFL Jerseys, Priya Manickchand, she had indicated a willingness to emulate the IDRF programme in other underprivileged areas.

A number of concerned members of the New Building Society ((NBS) say that they are contemplating a motion made in Parliament to change the society into a company and have it regulated by the Bank of Guyana. The group, which calls itself the New Building Society Concerned Members, also yesterday flayed the financial situation of the society and said that the entire “investment in the Berbice River Bridge is in contravention of the NBS Act, under which the NBS is a housing association.”The group, which included its Chairman, Fazel Khan, and members-consumers affair advocate, Eileen Cox and accountant, Christopher Ram, made the statements yesterday at the Lamaha Street office of the Guyana Consumers Association.“All it takes is five words. The New Building Society Limited. As you can see all it will take for NBS to fall under the Financial Institutions Act. We believe that the simple step will provide the assurance that a leading financial institution will require for the safety and security of its funds,” Ram said. The group said that it called the press conference to highlight “certain matters which are of serious concern to us”.The body said that the issue of NBS not being under the FIA and therefore not regulated by the Bank of Guyana has been raised several times.“This promise to address legislative changes was made and repeated on numerous occasions over at least five years. We have carefully examined the FIA and we are convinced that all it requires to bring NBS under regulatory control are no more than five words to Section 2 of the Act. Our concern is that this delay/failure exposes deposits amounting to $32B placed in the society by tens of thousands of members.”The concerned members also accused the board and management of failing/refusing to carry out decisions properly taken at the Annual General Meeting ((AGM), the supreme organ of the society, including repatriation of investments held in the United Kingdom and the establishment of a Loans Sub-Committee of the Board.Reading from the prepared statement, the members also noted that the directors in newspaper publications of its unaudited accounts for a nine month period ending September 30, 2009, insulted its members by describing them in unacceptable, uncouth and inappropriate language as “sick and frustrated minds” and “half a dozen disgruntled persons”.The group also noted that without offering any explanations, the NBS Directors removed its long-standing auditors and replaced them with a partnership “already in the process of breaking up.”According to the members,Air Max Salg Norge, they have been made aware that NBS has “effectively ceased lending for mortgages-an unprecedented development in the history of the NBS. The Society has given as the reason for this that the Society has reached its lending limit.”The group was of the opinion given all the various scenarios, that there is grave danger for the future of the society which is now unable to perform its most important role and function, “that of mortgages lending to its members. We further believe that this situation has arisen because of the mismanagement by a board consisting of members with strong political affiliation and connections.”
